Let's Get Sprouting!

Want a quick, fun and easy way to get sprouts? It doesn't come much easier then this.

What you will need

  • Large glass jar (I used an old olive jar)
  • Mesh or cheesecloth (I used window screen from Home Depot...the plastic kind)
  • One rubber band
  • Sprouts (I used a variety, radish sprouts give it a tangy flavor)
  • Water

1) Select a large Glass Jar and wash thoroughly.
2) Cut a square out of cheese cloth or mesh to fit over too of the jar's opening.
3) Depending on the size of the jar add your seeds. I used 3T seeds to this olive jar and it's now filled.
4) Add water to cover the seeds.
5) Place the cheese cloth or mesh over the jar opening and secure with a rubber band as in the picture.
6) Let sit overnight near a window but not direct sunlight. You don't wast to dry out the seeds but they do need light.
7) The next day, add more water through the cheesecloth or mesh...rinse the seeds then Dump the water from the jar through the cloth or mesh.
8) Let sit overnight again near a window but not direct sunlight.
9) Repeat steps 7 and 8 for 4-5 days until your seeds have sprouted.  For the last ½ of the 4th or 5th day or when the sprouts are 1 ½ to 2 inches long I place the jar of Alfalfa sprouts next to a strong light source, to green up the Alfalfa. I keep my room temperature between 70 to 80F degrees, but the temperature can be as low a 60F with slower growth as an end result.

Remember, depending on the type if seeds, sprouting days may vary.

Enjoy!
