Answer: Depends on how many walkers are in front of you. ;)
Well. it wan't exactly a true 5K, and unlike the highway (at most times), slower traffic did not stay to the right. But it was a heck of a lot of fun!
The wait to get started wasn't too long. They let runners/walkers begin about every 5 minutes. Problem was, I drank too much coffee and had a 32oz water on the ride to the event thinking they'd have porta-potties readily available. But no...the first porta-potty was about 2 miles into the run. Lucky me! But no worries, as 1/2 of that was spent trying to get around people while drinking another 16 oz free water they gave you about 1/2 mile into the run.
After I did get to "relieve myself"....I took off like a bat out of hell and completed the run quickly. It seemed that once you passed the Amtrak station the crowd dispersed, leaving the last 1/2 mile (whoopie!) clear to runners.
It was fun though. And the music and colors at the end were indeed the highlight.
Would I do it again? Probably not. But it was a once in a lifetime thing to do and I have some awesome memories.
...and yes...I did get in the truck and drive home like this.
I even stopped at a store. I was surprised they let me in.
Don going thru the first color zone where we were relatively clean.
We actually were spotted by a good friend. I was amazed she found us in the thousands of people!
Yeah...ummm....
Go Don!
...and the sky lit up to the DJ's...dancing for all!
There was a porta poddy at the 1st green zone - you must have missed it! lol I liked it and would do it again. It is more my pace, though. I would also like to look into doing more 5Ks.
ReplyDeleteDang! I missed the first rest stop? Would've made for a better run on an empty bladder. LOL!
ReplyDeleteThere's the color run coming up...that's on the east side I think in September.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it and want to do more...have you thought of just starting to train for them and not worrying about where they are? Once you get the "bug" in you to run, it's hard to get rid of it.
