1) A MIND IS A TERRIBLE THING TO WASTE ***********************
The mind has a very powerful connection over the body. We can teach our brains to overcome most anything life throws at us. Personal experience is my source for this note. At the age of 37 I tore a thigh muscle and I ended up with a blood clot that ran the full length of my left leg. I couldn’t walk and was in bed in the hospital for a month. At one point my blood pressure dropped to zero...I died. The doctors and nurses brought me back to life. I was told that I would never walk again; that’s if I ever went home from the hospital without leaving in a bag or box. I was in bad shape. The blood thinners weren’t working on me due to my vegetarian and bodybuilding lifestyle, (as vitamin K is the antidote to Coumadin, or rat poison, that they give you for thinning your blood and destroying the clot). I finally stabilized after a month and they sent me home on crutches, in pain, and unable to walk or even feel my entire leg. It was like someone stuck a dead tree limb into my hip socket.
Weeks went by and I was devastated. The doctors told me there was nothing they could do, the muscle had died, the tissue was dead and the nerve ending were damaged beyond fixing. I began to research different vitamins, mineral and supplements, along with inner-body strengthening such as self-hypnosis and mostly WILL-POWER! I started a cocktail of numerous amino acids, Coenzyme Q10 and other things for circulations and regrowth of tissue…and I prayed and told my inner-self that I WAS going to walk again. Weeks went by of praying and me telling my body it WILL work again.

One day I was sitting on the couch thinking, “foot, move!”….my toes jumped. I was ecstatic!
I continued believing in myself and sure enough, one day I went into the doctor’s office on crutches, and threw them down in front of him and started to walk. He deemed it a miracle; I deemed it will power, believing in myself and knowing that my mind can do anything, including heal my body!
It took me about a year to get back to walking, much longer for working out. I am still in pain at time, and my leg/brain coordination gets lost in the moment with freakishly bad timing, but here I am, age 49. I kick box, exercise and I can do more than most people half my age. I can only contribute my health to my diet, exercise and will power.

2) MOVING ON TO THE MIND AND TRAINING ***********************
Train your mind to train your body. Psychological barriers (the “I can’t because ___” syndrome) can kill motivation and performance.
Spring is fast approaching, and New Year’s fitness resolutions and goals were set and motivation was high. To maintain conscientious and serious fitness goals, one needs a rock-solid plan of action. Mental preparation is key, and self-motivation and discipline are essential to successful mental training.
3) VISUALIZE YOURSELF MENTALLY ***********************
Visualize what you want to be…what will your body look like, how will your body respond. I’m not suggesting that you are going to look like Pam Anderson or a young Arnold…but visualize if you want to be thinner or have more muscle or definition. Keep that picture in your head and think about it every day. A positive vision can create expectations of success and achievements
Helpful Tips:
1. Remove negative thoughts that are sabotaging your success.
2. Focus – Don’t let outside forces distract you. If the kids/family are distracting you, remove yourself from the situation. I used to lock myself in the basement to work out and refuse to acknowledge anything or anyone unless someone was dying or the house was on fire. You are worth it, make time for yourself.

3. Identify your goals and repeat them over and over on a daily basis (when I hurt my leg I repeated these before I went to sleep and asked my subconscious to work on them overnight as I rested)
4. Create a picture in your mind of your goals
5. Believe in yourself and your power that your mind can do anything

6. Reward your success! Not by sabotaging what you just achieved and buying a Dairy Queen sundae, but small things that further your success (that new workout DVD you wanted or a new pair of jeans that by the way you look fabulous in!)
GO FOR IT! You can do this…if anyone tells you anything different go back to helpful tip #2. ;)
